This was the first set of scans that I did. The theme around the images is the show The Office. As I was trying to come up with an idea for this assignment, I was watching The Office and ironically an episode came on where they received a new scanner and were messing around scanning random things on it. This gave me the idea to do something related to the show as a jumping off point for the assignment. Since the show is centered around a paper company, I decided to use paper. I struggled to figure out what it was I was going to put on the paper and then I remembered the quote, "Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way," this gave me the idea to utilize the top and bottom of the scanner and somehow bring the first bit of text down to the second. I chose three other quotes from the show that had two parts to them and went from there. I started by flipping the pieces of paper which made a sort of falling down effect. I thought this was really cool and brought the first part down to the other. However, the scanner was having trouble recognizing this motion and kept only scanning the first image. I then decided to move the papers up and down and it created a really interesting effect that made the text image unrecognizable. This is actually what gave me the idea for my second set of scans. This was an interesting way to see how text can be manipulated through a scanner to create a new and different image.
