When listening to sounds in my environment it is weird how many I realized that I drown out. If you sit and listen for five minutes without distractions you will slowly realize that more and more sounds become noticeable. Things like the sound of a computer fan or the person on the other side of the room typing, maybe a loud air conditioner. Common sounds that you frequently hear sort of get tuned out. I also observed that a lot of sounds overpower others so it is important to take the time and slow down and really listen to the world around you. Even when listening to songs I have heard a hundred times, I started to pick up on little sounds in the background music that I hadn't before because I wasn't paying enough attention to it and was more focused on the overpowering sounds and vocals. Sometimes when one sound overpowers the other you have to actively think about the quieter sound to focus in on it and appreciate it. Little things play a big role in the overall, it is important that we appreciate them.
