6/2 Video Assignment

Inspiration Video:

I thought this was a really fun assignment. It was a good way to learn about video production without having to worry about every single aspect as that can be a daunting task. Using a video for inspiration not only made me look at all the different types of videos that there are out there in the world but also help limit the stress of having to create a script and act out a scene that I totally came up with on my own. I also learned that creating a video by yourself is not only awkward but a bit difficult. Initially, I planned on using my camera to shoot the video but then I couldn't figure out a way to prop it up high enough and keep it stable. I wound up stacking a bunch of books and my art box and propping my phone up on top of it. It actually managed to stay pretty well in place the entire time I was shooting. The only issue was that my video effects were limited as I couldn't zoom in and act in the video at the same time. When working with students this is the sort of project I would definitely make a group assignment. It gets a bit frustrating when editing the video as things frequently don't go as planned but it is interesting to learn about and luckily computers have an undo button. Overall, I felt like this assignment was a good entry way to video editing and I would like to explore it further using iMovie. My only other video editing experience was with Adobe Premiere and that is a daunting application and it frustrated me to the point where I was turned off from editing. iMovie is much simpler and even though what you can do is much more limited it is easier to learn the basics and edit in a simplified way.
