Idea: Digital Ink Blot Interpretations
Collaborator: Darien
Synopsis:
For Impact25, we would like to ask 25 (or more) people about digitally painted ink blots and what they see in them. Using video, we would document their interpretations and reactions. The digital ink blots will be created on ProCreate using the ink brush, smudge brush and symmetry tool. After answering a series of questions like who they are, their age and what they do for a living, we will show a variety of ink blots to the person and see what they come up with when looking at the images. We would like this to be recorded using videography so that they explain what they see, where and why. To further incorporate digital painting into our project, we were thinking of possibly drawing in what the participant saw in the ink blots to add into our video and make clear (to the video viewer) what it is the person was seeing and where/how this was possible to them. We are hoping to get a wide range of perspectives and interpretations, as that would make this project much more interesting then a range of repetitive answers, as people come from different backgrounds and bring different viewpoints to the world.
Pictured below is an example ink blot that we have created. We would like to possibly create a few different ink blots to ask participants about as to ensure we receive a diverse group of responses. Next we need to find participants, record their reactions and then decide exactly how we want to go about combining the video clips and possibly adding in the additional digital painting element. We are interested to see where this project takes us, as it seems right now it can go in many different directions based on the responses we receive.
